Mindfulness is a strategy to help you get into the thinking/ logical part of your brain when you feel hijacked by emotion or instinct.
Mindfulness is a practice. Like anything else you practice (sports, instrument, etc.) you need to build up stamina before you do the intense stuff. It can be harmful to attempt certain “mindful” things in a moment of crisis if you’ve never tried it before.
Trust and safety need to be established to safely practice mindfulness. This may be trust that you won’t be interrupted, or feeling safe in your own body.
