Full Job Description

POSITION DESCRIPTION: 

Sunrise Group Leaders are at the heart of Sunrise’s work with young people. Group Leaders work daily with youth, building relationships that endure and leading activities that open possibilities. A Sunrise Group Leader is responsible for supervising and providing programming to one group or cohort of K-12th grade students. Group Leaders prepare and lead structured activities, play games with their group, and make their time together fun, engaging, and educational. In all activities, the Group Leader will use a trauma-informed approach to create a positive, fun atmosphere while maintaining health and safety guidelines in accordance with Philadelphia Health Department regulations, all grant requirements, and the strategic goals defined by the Sunrise administrative team.

During the summer season, which will run 6/21/21 - 8/6/21, each Group Leader will be assigned to a cohort of 24 students supported by a team of three staff members. Sunrise Group Leaders will be responsible for the safety and wellness of the students in their assigned cohort and will work with the other staff to ensure that: students are screened properly upon entry, COVID protocols are maintained, academic work is supported, the cohort’s materials are cleaned and sanitized, and Sunrise’s enrichment activities run successfully as scheduled.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Create a safe and fun atmosphere for your assigned cohort
  • Maintain proper supervision of your assigned cohort
  • Manage student engagement and behavior using a positive, trauma-informed approach
  • Lead and support structured, academic-oriented programming
  • Prep and lead enrichment programming, including planned lessons and informational fun activities
  • Lead regular outdoor play and activity sessions
  • Work collaboratively with outside instructors, School District staff, and contractors to achieve program goals
  • Monitor and support respectful daily space use, including appropriate care and storage of program supplies and School District property
  • Operate in accordance with Philadelphia Health Department requirements, including daily screening of self and students, ensuring proper distancing, etc.
  • Participate in quality improvement efforts including data collection, reflective practice, and professional development
  • If assigned as the lead staff member of a cohort:
  • Call families of absent students daily and share updates with Sunrise and SDP leadership
  • Ensure completion of sign-in sheets daily
  • Support the work of the two Group Leaders in your cohort
  • Serve as primary point of contact for outside instructors, School District staff, and contractors working with your cohort to ensure collaborative and productive working relationships
  • Organize and ensure all required paperwork (sign ins, PBL, etc.) is complete for program activities
  • Communicate with families as needed in a friendly, courteous manner
  • Collaborate with other staff for event planning, outreach efforts, and other services
  • Other duties as assigned

POSITION REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Required: at least a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Preferred: at least two years verified experience working with youth (1250 hours per year, total: 2,500 hours)
  • Preferred: an associate’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university, either in or including 30 credit hours in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field
  • Positive communication and conflict resolution skills
  • Enthusiasm and dedication to improving the lives of youth and families
  • Ability to work productively as part of a team
  • Commitment to on-going growth and professional development
  • Friendly, courteous manner
  • Ability to speak multiple languages a plus

HOURS and COMPENSATION: 

  • $15.00-$17.00 per hour, depending on qualifications, experience, and responsibilities given
  • This is a temporary seasonal full-time hourly position working 40 hours per week (Monday-Friday) during the 2021 summer season
  • Summer Season: 6/21/21 - 8/6/21
  • Daily schedule may vary depending on the schedule of the site to which you are assigned
  • This is a grant funded position that reports directly to the supervisor of the assigned cohort
